FRAS stands for "Florida Resident Assistant Symposium" and is a chance for RA's around the state of Florida to network and to share/learn new skills with peers. FRAS 2018 will take place Friday-Sunday January 19-21, 2018 in Sarasota, FL at Ringling College and New College.
Saint Leo University Team
Saint Leo University will be selecting 10 delegates and 2 alternates for the conference. Delegates and alternates will attend & participate in all meetings and conference preparation. Alternates can become delegates if a delegate is unable to attend the conference OR if the conference extends the delegate cap.
Saint Leo University Selection Timeline: Friday September 29th: FRAS Introduction & Kick-Off @ In-Service Friday September 29th: FRAS Application emailed out to Resident Assistants Wednesday October 4th: All online applications due by/before noon Monday October 4th-Friday October 6th: Review of applications Friday October 6th: Team decisions announced
Time Commitment (all specific dates/times set according to participants’ schedules): · Attend FRAS on-campus “Retreat” (4-6 hours) Sunday, December 10th · Additional 3-4 fall meetings (1-2 hours each) · Additional January meetings and rehearsals (1 meeting every week) · Plan & rehearse program(s) for FRAS at January training · Attend FRAS Conference Friday January 19-21 (weekend; will miss Friday afternoon classes) · Lead FRAS In-Service at the end of February (1hour) to share about experience & information gained at program sessions with Saint Leo RA’s
Why Do It?: · Learn and develop new skills (both related to Residence Life and transferrable to future careers) · Network with other residence life staff from around the state · Opportunity to present programs on a state-level · Great resume builder · It rejuvenates you as you hit the mid-year slump · It’s fun! FRAS is a combination of cheer camp and a residence life conference! · Conference registration (meals included), travel, & hotel paid for by Department of Residence Life
What Will You Do Before the Conference? · Fundraise for the conference · Complete a philanthropy with the chosen delegate team · Collect donations for swap shop (trade with other schools for “swag” like t-shirts, mugs, etc.) · Create and implement roll call (3min video) · Create and implement spirit cheers · Create and submit at least one program proposal for the conference · Help plan spirit (t-shirts, embellishments, etc.)

FRIDAY 10:00am: Final Rehearsal/Depart for Conference 4:00-6:00pm: Check-in at Hotel 6:00-7:00pm: Dinner 7:30-9:45pm: Opening Ceremony 10:00-11:00pm: Swap Shop 11:10pm-1:00am: Entertainment SATURDAY 8:30-9:30am: Breakfast 9:30-9:50am: Introduction 10:00am-12:20pm: Program Sessions 1, 2, and 3 (40 min each) 12:30-1:20pm: Lunch & Keynote Speaker Session 1 1:30-2:20pm: Lunch & Keynote Speaker Session 2 2:30-4:00pm: Program Sessions 4 and 5 (40 min each) 4:00-7:00pm: Free Time/Banquet Preparation 7:00-9:00pm: Banquet & Awards Ceremony 9:30-midnight: Hospitality Room/Beach Bonfire 11:00-2:00am: (optional) Hospitality Room SUNDAY 7:00-8:30am Breakfast 8:30am: Divvy up Swap Shop Items 9:00am: Depart for home 11:00am: Arrive Home
