LOCKOUT POLICY Residents are given three “free” lockouts per academic year. A lockout fee of $5.00 will be assessed to the resident student account each time thereafter. When a resident is locked out of his/her room/apartment, he/she should do one of the following:
1) Find their RA 2) Contact the Residence Life Office during business hours 3) Call Campus Security at extension 8432 if the Residence Life Office is closed and an RA cannot be found
The following procedure should be followed by all residence life staff in the case of a lockout: · If you do not know the identity of the student AND their current room; verify their identification before keying them in · Have the resident sign the lock-out sheet (posted on/by keybox in building)
Many lockouts occur because a student has lost their key. When a student loses their key they must report the key lost to the Residence Life Office. The student is billed for the lost key. The charge will be placed on the student’s Saint Leo account and can be paid through Trane Stop. The cost is $50.00 in Marmion, Snyder, Henderson, Benoit & Alumni. The cost is $130.00 for Roderick, East Campus, Apartments 1-4 and Buildings 5-6.
DAMAGES Room Damages: Residents are responsible for all damages to their room/apartment and its furnishings. Damages may be reported and charges assessed at any time. Students are not charged for “normal wear and tear” except where careless use of the items or facility may be involved.
Common Area Damages: An area (floor, building, wing) may be assessed for common area damages if responsible parties cannot be identified. This includes, but is not limited to: assessments for broken lights; damage to community furniture; damage to fire safety equipment, railings, or fire exit sign; and damage to lounges, laundry facilities, and similar public use areas in the complex. Total charges for repairs and replacements will be divided by the number of residents in the room/area.
Billing Procedure: Plant Operations will share the fee assessment for repair of vandalism/damages/trash removal or excessive cleaning. Residence Life will at the end of the academic term or year assess the combined common area charges to the students’ accounts. Students who fail to pay their bills or charges for damages, lock changes, or cleaning will have a financial hold placed on their account. This means that, until they pay for any outstanding charges, they will not be able to obtain a diploma or transcript, register for classes, etc.
MAINTENANCE General Maintenance: Everyone (residents, staff, faculty) can now enter maintenance requests themselves through the Residence Life webpage. The primary role of the RA is to submit maintenance requests, educate residents on how to submit maintenance requests and to communicate on-going concerns to the professional staff. The professional staff will work in collaboration with Plant Operations to address concerns.
Emergency Maintenance: Emergency maintenance is maintenance discovered after offices close that cannot wait until Plant Operations or Housekeeping staff begin their shifts at 7am the following morning (these offices have staff on campus even on weekends -so 7am means ANY day of the week). These situations are time sensitive and/or pose a threat to the safety and security of the students. For these incidents RAs should notify Campus Safety immediately. If related to a policy violation the RA will document the incident including what happened, where, where, and how it was addressed.
Examples include: · Exterior door locks for building inoperative · Student room door lock inoperative · Fire alarm system inoperative · Sprinkler and/or water system inoperative · Complete electrical outage in student room, building or major area of the building · Gas leak · Broken glass hazard (in community area) · Bodily Fluids (in community area) · Flooding · Water running into electrical fixtures · Fire extinguisher tampered with or missing · Sewer back up · Uncontrollable running water onto floors or through ceiling
